Summary:
Erin Pritchard is a Physics major, Industrial Engineering minor, graduating in May 2010. Erin grew up in Orange County, New York and came to Northeastern University for the many opportunities it has to offer. Since starting at Northeastern in 2005, she has completed two very different co-ops, first working at Raytheon Company, and then working on campus doing research in Dr. Srivinas Sridhar’s nanomedicine lab. While at Raytheon, Erin worked in the Radio Frequency Engineering Test Lab, taking measurements and helping analyze data for gallium nitride technology. She worked mostly with Field Effect Transistors (FETs) for use in radar detection. For her second co-op, Erin worked as an IGERT fellow, doing research on targeted drug release from liposomes with the use of magnetic hyperthermia. The goal of this research is to find alternatives to chemotherapy for cancer treatments, as current treatment options often destroy healthy cells in addition to the cancer cells. Erin is gearing up for a third co-op, and will most likely be returning to Raytheon Company to continue her work on FETs. Though much of her interest lies within the fields of nanomedicine and astrophysics, Erin has had the opportunity to see many other fields physics has to offer, and is excited about the possibilities that await her after graduation.
