What you will need to bring

•          Lab manual from Gnomon Copy

•          Lab notebook, pencils, a clear plastic metric ruler, a floppy disk (or other media to save your work)

Lab information

•          Lab length is 2 hours and 50 minutes regardless of what your schedule says

•          Students take lab every other week and are assigned to one group

–         Week 1: Group A

–         Week 2: Group B

•          A TA teaches to Group A one week, Group B the next week

•          Write down and remember the name of your TA and group

•          Lab is 20% of overall grade in course

–         i.e. the lab grade is integrated into lecture and ILS (if you have one)

•          Students must complete all six experiments

•          Students must hand in a copy of their data and show that they have completed the analysis in order to leave the lab

•          The lab report should have a cover page with the name of the experiment, your name, your lab partner’s name, and your TA’s name.

•          This should be a complete, typed report with an introduction, main body with data and analysis, and a quantitative conclusion. A sample report can be found on the IPL home page.

•          Each student will write a lab report at home and hand it into your TA the following week. Your lab report should not be an exact copy of your lab partner’s report. It is acceptable to turn in your lab report early, if you wish to do so. Your TA’s lab mailbox is located in the IPL office in 323CH. If the office door is closed, slide your report under the door. LAB REPORTS SUBMITTED BY E-MAIL WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

•          Late labs are subtracted 1 point (out of 10) for each day they are handed in late

•          All final lab reports are due Friday, April 13th, by 12:00pm (NOON). NO EXCEPTIONS. No lab reports will be accepted after that time. (Note: your final lab report could be due before April 13th. If your final lab report is due before April 13th, it will be counted as late if it is submitted on April 13th.)

Experiment Make-ups

•          Students cannot make up labs the following week if they miss their scheduled lab

•          Missed labs get a zero

•          Students can make-up only one lab during make-up period and only if they had a valid excuse for missing that lab.

•          All make-ups must be approved by the IPL Directors or the IPL supervisor.

•          There is ONE make-up period. April 9th and 10th from 8:30AM–5:30PM.

•          All make-up lab reports are due April 13th by 12:00pm. NO EXCEPTIONS. No make-up lab reports will be accepted after that time.

•          You must e-mail Robert Markiewicz on April 2d or 3d to arrange a make-up lab during the make-up period. Any consecutive two hour and fifty minute time during the make-up period is acceptable. Please include the experiment, day, and time in your e-mail.
